Tuesday, January 8th: Is Anyone Thirsty?

Question: What is our motivation for seeking Jesus today?
Certainly we have our own thirsts that cry to be satisfied, and Jesus is loudly and graciously calling us to come to the fountain of His presence.
“Let everyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.” (John 7:37b)
But Jesus doesn’t just plead with us to drink to satisfy our own thirsts! Jesus calls us to drink until the Spirit overflows like a river of His life pouring out of our souls.
“’Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive.” (John 7:38,39a)
Why am I thirsting? Why am I drinking? Why am I seeking the full flow of the Spirit’s river of life today?
We thirst, we drink, we overflow because we are surrounded by thirsty people, thirsty families, thirsty neighbours, thirsty Churches. We live among parched, dry, dying souls seeking fulness at fountains of worldly fantasies that will never satisfy.
Make a list of the thirsty people that your life will touch today, this week, this month, this year!

They are my reason to seek Jesus today!
Final thought: My heart was created by God to be an overflowing fountain of life for thirsty souls. Is my heart clean? Is my heart healthy? Is my heart safe? Is my heart thirsty?
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
